ISBN 978-1-108-49706-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aquest llibre pertany a un g\u00e8nere molt usual en la bibliografia anglosaxona amb qu\u00e8 es presenta un estat de la q\u00fcesti\u00f3 d\u2019una disciplina determinada o, com en aquest cas, d\u2019una \u00e0rea concreta. No ha d\u2019estranyar doncs que existeixi tamb\u00e9 <em>The Oxford handbook of European romanticism <\/em>(2016), tamb\u00e9 citat aqu\u00ed (p. 3). Tradicionalment, i tamb\u00e9 \u00e9s el cas aqu\u00ed, el volum t\u00e9 un coordinador que encarrega a diversos autors cobrir un aspecte concret de la mat\u00e8ria: es diferencia aix\u00ed de la mera recopilaci\u00f3 d\u2019articles perqu\u00e8 els cap\u00edtols segueixen un esquema semblant i procuren (algunes vegades sense gaire \u00e8xit) no trepitjar \u00e0mbits que altres tractaran. En aquest cas, per exemple, cada cap\u00edtol acaba amb una an\u00e0lisi d\u2019una obra representativa de l\u2019\u00e0rea estudiada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019\u00abeditor\u00bb (en el sentit anglosax\u00f3, \u00e9s a dir, curador) parteix d\u2019una cronologia (p. XIII-XXIX) que va de 1750 (Rousseau) a 1850 (Wordsworth): es tracta doncs, diu ell, d\u2019un \u00absegle rom\u00e0ntic\u00bb, m\u00e9s un per\u00edode que no una est\u00e8tica (p. 25); en altres cap\u00edtols, aquests l\u00edmits s\u00f3n m\u00e9s flexibles (p. 518). La introducci\u00f3 (p. 1-37) presenta, de manera ordenada i completa, els principals trets del romanticisme; \u00e9s un bon estat de la q\u00fcesti\u00f3 tenint en compte que la bibliografia sobre aquest moviment \u00e9s molt extensa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seguidament cada autor desglossa cada un dels conceptes que defineixen el romanticisme, ordenats cronol\u00f2gicament: revisi\u00f3 dels antecedents (cap. 1), naturalesa (cap. 2), sublim (cap. 3), sensibilitat (cap. 4), novel\u00b7la g\u00f2tica (cap. 5), visi\u00f3 hist\u00f2rica i org\u00e0nica de la cultura (cap. 6), revolucions (cap. 7), cultura nacional (cap. 8), emigraci\u00f3 i exili (cap. 9), <em>salons<\/em> femenins (cap. 10), nacionalisme (cap. 11), recepci\u00f3 de Shakespeare (cap. 12), classicisme i romanticisme (cap. 13), pol\u00edtica (cap. 14), \u00e8poca postrevolucion\u00e0ria (cap. 15), literatura universal (cap. 16) i novel\u00b7la hist\u00f2rica (cap. 17).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Els dos \u00faltims cap\u00edtols, sobre literatura escandinava (cap. 18) i literatura russa (cap. 19), no acaben d\u2019encaixar dins de l\u2019esquema. Malgrat la refer\u00e8ncia europea del t\u00edtol, el desequilibri entre les diverses literatures estudiades \u00e9s notori: basti notar que, en una llista de disset \u00abexemplary figures\u00bb del romanticisme (p. 9), trobem nom\u00e9s dos italians, un rus, un espanyol (Espronceda) i un polon\u00e8s; les literatures alemanya, francesa i anglesa es reparteixen els altres dotze. Per aix\u00f2 els dos darrers cap\u00edtols queden una mica despenjats. Tot i que el coordinador \u00e9s professor d\u2019una universitat su\u00efssa, els autors del volum s\u00f3n predominantment anglosaxons i per tant ho \u00e9s la bibliografia que usen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c9s especialment interessant l\u2019atenci\u00f3 que es presta a termes clau, molts d\u2019ells provinents de la cultura alemanya: <em>Bildung<\/em> (cap. 7), <em>Biedermeier<\/em> (cap. 15) o <em>Weltliteratur<\/em> (cap. 16), tot i recon\u00e8ixer que el franc\u00e8s va continuar mantenint el \u00abcapital cultural\u00bb que arrossegava des del segle XVIII (p. 513). Aspectes que la bibliografia tradicional havia negligit s\u00f3n aqu\u00ed recuperats, com la literatura de les dones i especialment els <em>salons <\/em>femenins \u00abinjustament trivialitzats\u00bb (\u00abthe unfairly trivialised salon culture\u00bb) (p. 33).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Certament, ni la literatura espanyola ni la catalana van fer grans aportacions al romanticisme i aix\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 explica, a m\u00e9s de l\u2019aclaparadora bibliografia anglosaxona, que les refer\u00e8ncies als seus autors sigui previsiblement escasses. Hi ha una refer\u00e8ncia al \u00abcostumbrismo\u00bb espanyol (p. 468), tot i que no apareix a l&#8217;\u00edndex anal\u00edtic de noms i termes que tanca el volum. Pot estranyar-nos doncs una refer\u00e8ncia a Rosal\u00eda de Castro (p. 358) i una a Verdaguer (p. 363) per\u00f2 es troben al cap\u00edtol 11, a c\u00e0rrec de Joep Leerssen, un autor que ha estudiat fen\u00f2mens com la Renaixen\u00e7a: el seu cap\u00edtol \u00e9s, en aquest sentit, molt recomanable. M\u00e9s sorprenent \u00e9s, almenys per a mi, una reivindicaci\u00f3, d\u2019altra banda convincent, de l\u2019il\u00b7lustrat fra Benito Jer\u00f3nimo Feijoo com a protofeminista (p. 348).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malgrat aix\u00f2, el volum \u00e9s interessant tamb\u00e9 a casa nostra, especialment perqu\u00e8 ja des del t\u00edtol del volum i tamb\u00e9 en cap\u00edtols com \u00abGlobal Romanticisms\u00bb (487), mostra el creixent inter\u00e8s del m\u00f3n acad\u00e8mic per posar de manifest relacions prou evidents entre les diverses literatures per\u00f2 oblidades pel nacionalisme imperant en tants programes escolars i universitaris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El volum est\u00e0 ben presentat, t\u00e9 14 p\u00e0gines de bibliografia ampliada (\u00abFurther reading\u00bb, p. 610) i un \u00edndex for\u00e7a complet de noms i t\u00edtols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-2342-7686\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Llu\u00eds Quintana Trias<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vincent, Patrick (ed.).
