ISBN 978-1-009-18103-7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019autor, Andrew Kamei-Dyche, \u00e9s un investigador de la hist\u00f2ria del llibre i la cultura impresa japoneses, especialitzat en la hist\u00f2ria de la lectura i l\u2019edici\u00f3. Actualment, \u00e9s docent a la Universitat Aoyama Gakuin. El llibre ressenyat aqu\u00ed \u00e9s un estudi que ofereix una visi\u00f3 general de la varietat d\u2019espais de lectura al Jap\u00f3 modern i la seva evoluci\u00f3 des d\u2019una perspectiva hist\u00f2rica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despr\u00e9s d\u2019una breu introducci\u00f3, l\u2019autor examina el desenvolupament de Kanda-Jinb\u014dch\u014d (\u795e\u7530\u795e\u4fdd\u753a), la zona de T\u00f2quio que ha estat durant un segle el lloc m\u00e9s vinculat als llibres i la cultura impresa al Jap\u00f3. A continuaci\u00f3, examina la transformaci\u00f3 dels espais de lectura p\u00fablica, principalment la manera que, des de l\u2019\u00e8poca moderna fins a l\u2019actualitat, els factors socioecon\u00f2mics i els canvis de la manera d\u2019entendre els espais han influ\u00eft en les pr\u00e0ctiques de lectura. Finalment, explica la naturalesa i l\u2019impacte dels espais de lectura virtual, com ara la representaci\u00f3 de la lectura i els espais de lectura en la cultura popular, i les noves formes en l\u2019\u00e0mbit digital, aix\u00ed com la relaci\u00f3 multifac\u00e8tica entre les formes actuals i les m\u00e9s antigues de la pr\u00e0ctica lectora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cal destacar que el llibre inclou molts recursos visuals com ara mapes i fotografies, que complementen el contingut de manera molt pedag\u00f2gica. Aix\u00ed, tot i que el llibre \u00e9s una investigaci\u00f3 m\u00e9s aviat acad\u00e8mica, esdev\u00e9 tamb\u00e9 apte per al p\u00fablic no especialitzat. A m\u00e9s de la situaci\u00f3 al Jap\u00f3, l\u2019autor dona informaci\u00f3 addicional sobre la situaci\u00f3 dels espais de lectura en altres paisatges culturals durant la mateixa \u00e8poca. N\u2019\u00e9s un exemple el par\u00e0graf seg\u00fcent, sobre com, durant els anys 1920, les llibreries funcionaven no nom\u00e9s com a prove\u00efdores de suport intel\u00b7lectual i entreteniment, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 com a espais on la gent que pertanyia a una mateixa comunitat intel\u00b7lectual podia trobar-se:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Understandably, bookstores proliferated and came to occupy a vital role in the cultural landscape of the era. As was the case in cities elsewhere in the world at the time, notably European centers but also prominent Asian cities like Shanghai, among educated urbanites, and most prominently students and intellectuals, regular visits to bookstores became a part of daily life. Bookstores became increasingly important social spaces. (p. 20).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>El <em>boom<\/em> de llibreries i editorials a Kanda-Jinb\u014dch\u014d fou impulsat pels desenvolupaments culturals posteriors a la Primera Guerra Mundial. L\u2019era Taish\u014d (1912-1926) va ser una \u00e8poca de transici\u00f3 governamental, intensos moviments pol\u00edtics populars i d\u2019agitaci\u00f3 social, i una \u00e8poca en qu\u00e8 la cultura impresa va florir, cosa que va permetre valorar aquests moviments, fos criticant-los o satiritzant-los. Els moviments intel\u00b7lectuals que van captar la imaginaci\u00f3 p\u00fablica tamb\u00e9 van tenir un paper important perqu\u00e8 van atorgar a la lectura un paper vital tant en el desenvolupament personal com social (p. 26).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Durant els anys 1920, l\u2019editorial Iwanami Shoten (\u5ca9\u6ce2\u66f8\u5e97) va ajudar a promoure la pr\u00e0ctica de la lectura difonent la idea que els llibres afegien categoria social a qui els posse\u00efa, un fet que era seductor especialment entre la creixent classe mitjana urbana. Precisament aquesta classe social increment\u00e0 el seu inter\u00e8s pel desenvolupament de noves t\u00e8cniques en el disseny i la il\u00b7lustraci\u00f3 de llibres, i pels llibres en general com a objectes d\u2019art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The cultural capital accrued by some publishing brands gave rise to distinct subcultures: by the 1920s, Iwanami Shoten had become so popular among students that they would carry around Iwanami books as fashion accessories, leading to them being labelled \u00abIwanami boys\u00bb and \u00abIwanami girls\u00bb. (p. 29).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Aquest fet no \u00e9s tan diferent de com alguns llibres publicats a col\u00b7leccions d\u2019editorials europees actuals constitueixen tamb\u00e9 accessoris de capital cultural (i fins i tot peces gaireb\u00e9 de col\u00b7leccionista), com ara les ic\u00f2niques franges taronges de Penguin Books al Regne Unit, la Collection Blanche de Gallimard a Fran\u00e7a, o la Suhrkamp-Kultur a Alemanya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u2019altra banda, l\u2019estudi de Kamei-Dyche tamb\u00e9 esmenta el paper dels espais virtuals. L\u2019autor empra \u00abvirtual\u00bb amb dos sentits: \u00abimaginari\u00bb (sentit que trobem en la cultura popular) i \u00abdigital\u00bb (sentit que trobem en els espais en l\u00ednia on hom pot debatre i interactuar amb la lectura convencional i amb les noves formes de lectura). Tal com diu l\u2019autor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>One of the most interesting recent developments which took shape in the 1990s but has come to the forefront since the 2000s, has been light novels (\u30e9\u30a4\u30c8\u30ce\u30d9\u30eb, <em>raito noberu<\/em>), a form of young adult fiction that evolved from the intersection of popular entertainment fiction and manga thematics and style. [\u2026] One of the earliest and most influential examples of an online reading resource was Aozora Bunko (\u9752\u7a7a\u6587\u5eab, lit. \u00abblue sky library\u00bb, but fig. \u00abopen air library\u00bb), which drew on works out of copyright and evolved as a Japanese equivalent to Project Gutenberg. (p. 82 i 90).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>En conclusi\u00f3, a trav\u00e9s de l\u2019estudi de Kamei-Dyche no nom\u00e9s aprenem com \u00e9s la situaci\u00f3 al Jap\u00f3 pel que fa a la pr\u00e0ctica de la lectura, sin\u00f3 que tamb\u00e9 entenem per qu\u00e8 la ind\u00fastria editorial i la impremta encara s\u00f3n molt robustes i pr\u00f2speres al Jap\u00f3, a difer\u00e8ncia d\u2019altres pa\u00efsos, on cada vegada \u00e9s m\u00e9s dif\u00edcil de mantenir i sostenir. Els punts tractats en aquest estudi tamb\u00e9 poden servir per examinar espais i pr\u00e0ctiques de lectura d\u2019altres indrets del m\u00f3n. Finalment, cal remarcar que, si b\u00e9 \u00e9s cert que l\u2019abund\u00e0ncia de notes a peu de p\u00e0gina pot ser una mica intimidant per al p\u00fablic no especialitzat, els lectors i els investigadors interessats en japonologia, estudis d\u2019\u00c0sia Oriental i hist\u00f2ria del llibre les trobaran \u00fatils i inspiradores per ampliar coneixements.
