Accelerating Scoping Reviews with ATLAS.ti

Optimized methodological development with CAQDAS programs

CRICC researcher Juan-José Boté-Vericad publishes a new report in the collection “Informes del CRICC”. This manual provides a comprehensive guide to performing a scoping review using the advanced features of ATLAS.ti.

The project preparation and setup process is described, including the import of relevant documents. The manual highlights the creation and management of codes to systematically categorize information, together with the use of memos that provide the documents, to produce summaries of the scientific articles throughout the analysis. Citations are detailed to highlight and link specific text segments to the relevant codes, facilitating data retrieval and analysis.

The manual explains how to use ATLAS.ti search and retrieval tools to identify patterns and emerging themes, and how to use the relationships between codes, providing a comprehensive synthesis of the findings. In addition, it covers the export capabilities of ATLAS.ti, allowing the creation of tables and matrices for the final scoping review report, as well as integration with other analysis programs.

The final section of the manual provides guidance on structuring the scoping review report, including the methodology used, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and a discussion of the implications of the results. It ensures that the scoping review process is rigorous and well documented, taking full advantage of the potential of ATLAS.ti.

This manual provides a structured approach to conducting a scoping review, ensuring that investigators can perform a detailed and organized analysis, with adequate documentation of each step of the process. By using ATLAS.ti, researchers can handle large volumes of data efficiently, improve the accuracy of analysis, and present clear and consistent reports on their findings.
