The CRICC researcher and coordinator of the research line of Gender, Inclusion and Diversities of the center Maria Jose Masanet has won a grant from the call for research consolidation 2023 of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities with funding from the European Union through NextGenerationEU.
This grant was awarded to the research project entitled ‘Tales from Sex, Media and Youth: Experiences of Young People Learning about Sexuality through Media (SEXMEDIA). This project aims to understand how young people learn about sexuality informally through the media and to transfer these experiences to society through dissemination materials. To do so, a bottom-up approach is proposed, through life stories, focus groups and co-screening practices, which seeks to incorporate the real and everyday experiences of young people in the discussion about the relationship between youth, media and sexualities. The project focuses on two case studies in Madrid and Barcelona and makes a proposal in line with different SDGs: Health and well-being, quality education and gender equality.
SEXMEDIA will last two years and has received a budget of 179,360.72 euros. It is the only project in the area of Communication that has been funded in the call and will be coordinated from our Faculty. The scientific committee of experts who evaluated the project considered it to be of interest and relevance for its area of specialization and highlighted its excellent writing, quality and pertinence of analysis, awarding it a final score of 97 out of 100.
